March 19th Day of Protest

On March 19th, more than 500 people braved cold and sleet in Milwaukee to protest the second anniversary of the war in Iraq. They called on the Bush administration to end the war, bring the troops home, and rebuild our communities. The action was organized by the Milwaukee Coalition for a Just Peace.
Congressperson Gwen Moore denounced war and called for withdrawal of US troops.
More than 500 braved the weather to protest the war in Iraq.
John Goldstein, president of Labor Council, described the war on workers.
Marchers carrying 36 flag-draped coffins led the way.
Marchers headed up Wisconsin Avenue toward the Federal Building.
Pallbearers carrying coffins and peace signs led the march.
Flag-draped coffins filled the street, one for every Wisconsin soldier killed.
Peace marchers returned to O'Donnell Park, led by veterans.
Sr. Virgine Lawinger reminded us of the true cost of war.
The featured speaker at the rally was Representative Gwen Moore from Milwaukee's 4th Congressional district, who denounced war spending and called on the Bush administration to bring the troops home.
John Goldstein, president of the Milwaukee County Labor Council, described the cost of the war on working people and called for solidarity with Iraqi trade unionists. County Supervisor Roger Quindel spoke about how the sacrifices of war are not equally shared. Others spoke on behalf of veterans, military families, students, and the faith community.
The rally began at O'Donnell Park and marched up Wisconsin Avenue to the Federal Courthouse, led by pallbearers carrying 36 flag-draped coffins--one for every Wisconsin soldier killed in Iraq.
