Joe Carr, Puppet maker/activist with experience in U.S., Iraq & Palestine- (lovinrevolution.org) will be bringing his biodiesel tour to the midwest just in time for the big March 18th anniversary of the Iraq invasion.

Sat. March 4th from 1-4pm at the Milwaukee Housing Authority Community Building at 650 W. Resevoir Ave. (Brewer's Hill)

If you have always wanted to make a huge (or small) puppet to be used in Street Theatre or at a demo- this is certainly one of those times to learn!

~~~~Peace Action's Middle East Commitee is sponsoring a
Puppet Making Workshop on Saturday March 4th from 1-4pm at the Milwaukee Housing Authority Community Building at 650 W. Resevoir Ave.~~~
Joe Carr, an activist with experience working with groups in different parts of the U.S. and other countries, including the Christian Peacemaker's Team in Iraq and the International Solidarity Movement in Palestine is making a Milwaukee stop on his national tour!!
Here is an excerpt of information he uses:
Puppets are an excellent way to express your message, and make a demonstration look bigger and more fun. Make sure to choose a simple image that portrays a very clear message. Art can be a way to portray complex ideas with basic cartoons and symbols. People are much more inclined to look at a thought-inducing puppet than read a sign and the media will for sure love to show pictures of it on television.
Puppets often go along well with street theatre. You can make a small cast of characters and act out plays and short scenes, either pre-planned or improvised on the spot. It’s generally good to try and avoid any audio in a puppet street theatre piece, because it will be very hard for people to hear. So be sure to make your actions very clear and dramatic. For instance, a bulldozer chasing trees, or a soldier beating peasants, etc.
IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE A BLAST AND YOU JUST CAN'T WAIT FOR SATURDAY MARCH 4th, for the workshop TO ROLL AROUND- I'M SORRY BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO. BUT- YOU CAN CERTAINLY START GATHERING PROPS NOW!
(and you can drop materials off at the Peace Action office bin)
another excerpt from Mr. Carr:
Materials~~
Ideally you can get all your materials for free. Construction sites, people’s garages, and dumpsters provide endless possibilities, so consider this before spending much money. You never know what you’re going to need, and you’ll use things you never thought you would because it looks right. Be creative and preserve your resources. Here are a few things you’ll want to have:
