WHO'S WALLS? OUR WALLS!

its always powerful when a privileged, white elite takes to the streets to express their outrage at a system that benefits them while exploiting billions... or wait... nvm

how about this page starts to focus on movements of oppressed people liberating themselves? instead of romanticizing some overgrown punk rockers who think they themselves are the oppressed ones

dearest jack,

Your idea of what represents the oppressed belongs in the dustbin of history, jack. Anyone who's life exists outside the means of their control is oppressed, but how nice of you to assume that only white people would make wheatepaste messages with messages universal to all who strive for liberation. Are people's efforts supposed to be worth less because they don't fit some stereotype of your ideas of the one class or color of skin, that will lead us and themselves toward some mythological revolution? These assumptions you make ring of paternalism and of racism. Stop thinking you know what is best for people only they can liberate themselves for themselves.

Does anybody else realize that these wheatpastes mean nothing to anybody but the small group of people who created them? If you've got anything beyond the rhetoric, use it, otherwise stop pretending that you're going to (or even want to) make our community a better place.

guilty of being white?
15.07.2007 - 20:11
While being white does afford one some degree of privilege in this society, its stupid to think that white people, by nature of being white, are not oppressed or exploited. Everyone who is forced to sell their labor power to survive and has no control over the means of production is exploited and if they try to do anything about that, they will certainly find themselves under attack by the forces of repression. In any case, I sincerely doubt any of the people putting up wheatpaste are "elites." What a stupid thing to say.

And, as always, if you'd like to see something different on the site then make it happen instead of just crying about it and throwing some dumb comments about race.

If one person thinks differently or if more discussion is generated it's probably worth the small ammount of effort it takes to wheatpaste. Do you personally know the people that put up the wheatpastes, because they may in fact have more than rhetoric and may be trying to make the community a better place? They at least are taking a more active role in their community than sitting on the internet.

speaking for other people
23.07.2007 - 11:30
who are you refering to by "yall"? I would guess that the "behind our masks we are you" poster is probably about the fact that everyone has desires that they want to live, and the implication is that people who are acting dangerously enough to need to cover their faces just are acting them out more directly. I don't think that it's trying to say that anarchists speak for other people. They should speak for themselves.
